Regular Season Round 13: Lietkabelis - Zalgiris 77-82

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Panevezys. First ranked Zalgiris faced their biggest opponent Lietkabelis. Guests from Kaunas (10-1) defeated host Lietkabelis (7-3) 82-77. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Lietkabelis. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-13. But Lietkabelis won third quarter 27-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris dominated on the defensive end, holding Lietkabelis to just 7 points in second quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. French center Joffrey Lauvergne (211-91, agency: BeoBasket) fired 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Marius Grigonis (198-94) chipped in 11 points and 8 assists. Zalgiris' coach Martin Schiller used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Puerto Rican-American guard Kyle Vinales (185-92, college: CCSU, agency: Network Sports International) produced 19 points and 4 assists and forward Gabas Maldunas (205-93, college: Dartmouth) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Lietkabelis players scored in double figures. Zalgiris have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 10-1 record. Lietkabelis at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Zalgiris are looking forward to face Juventus (#4) in Utena in the next round. Lietkabelis will play on the road against Siauliai and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
