Rather expected game when 9th ranked Merkezefendi (5-6) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Samsun (7-5) 84-80 on Saturday. Samsun looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Merkezefendi was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Ahmet Cantitiz (193-92) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. American-Brazilian center Tim Soares (211-97, college: Master's) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Four Samsun players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Chauncey Collins (183-95, college: TCU, agency: Alti Sport) who recorded 28 points and 8 assists and forward Gokhan Yazicioglu (200-90) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively. Samsun moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Mamak and Balikesir. Merkezefendi at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eleventh position with six games lost. Samsun will face league's leader Akhisar Bld on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Merkezefendi will play against Bornova Bld (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
