Regular Season Round 11: Heidelberg - Halle 64-89

Rather expected game when 11th ranked BasCats Heidelberg (2-7) was smashed at home by eighth ranked Gisa Lions (4-6) 89-64. Gisa Lions dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to BasCats Heidelberg's 22. Gisa Lions forced 20 BasCats Heidelberg turnovers and outrebounded them 40-26 including 25 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a great evening for Greek center Styliani Fouraki (188-94) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. British guard Eilidh Simpson (170-92, college: SFC) helped adding 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Britta Daub (177-99, college: HBU) responded with 10 points and 4 assists and Croatian guard Inja Butina (175-95, college: Seton Hall) scored 11 points and 5 assists. Five Gisa Lions and four BasCats Heidelberg players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gisa Lions. They moved-up to seventh place. BasCats Heidelberg lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Hannover. Gisa Lions will play against league's leader Gruner Stern Keltern at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BasCats Heidelberg will play against TV Saarlouis Royals (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
