Regular Season Round 13: Koeln - Bochum 93-95

The most exciting game of round 13 in the ProB took place in Koeln. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Koeln (6-7) to first ranked SparkassenStars (9-1) 95-93 on Wednesday evening. SparkassenStars forced 21 Koeln turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Koeln helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Point guard Niklas Geske (188-94) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals for the winners and Johannes Joos (206-95) chipped in 18 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side American point guard Vincent Golson (173-94, college: CSUDH) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists and Thomas Michel (200-95) scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Koeln's coach Johannes Strasser rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. SparkassenStars have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place in North with 9-1 record. Koeln lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. SparkassenStars are looking forward to face Sixers (#9) in Sandersdorf in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Koeln will play at home against the league's second-placed Muenster and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
