Regular Season Round 9: Voluntari - Oradea 79-74

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Oradea (4-2) against fifth ranked Voluntari (5-2) on Wednesday night. Visiting Oradea was defeated by Voluntari in a tough game on the road 74-79. The hosts were already 13 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 27-19 Oradea's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 79-74 at the end of the game. It was a good game for American point guard Anthony Hickey (180-92, college: OK State) who led his team to a victory with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import guard Malcolm Lee (196-90, college: UCLA) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Serbian power forward Nikola Markovic (208-89) answered with 25 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American guard Aaron Broussard (196-90, college: Seattle) added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Oradea. Four Oradea players scored in double figures. Oradea's coach Cristian Achim tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Voluntari have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Defending champion Oradea dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Steaua B.. Voluntari will play against Timisoara (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Oradea will play against Constanta (#14) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
