Regular Season Round 15: Kyiv Basket - Zaporizhye 81-87

The most surprising game was the first loss of Kyiv Basket (13-1) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Zaporizhye (7-7) 87-81. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Kyiv Basket. Kyiv Basket trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 27-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 81-87 at the end of the game. Zaporizhye made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Zaporizhye outrebounded Kyiv Basket 41-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Kyiv Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Lithuanian center Aurimas Majauskas (202-93, college: SHSU, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Mike Caffey (183-93, college: LBSU, agency: Players Group) helped adding 17 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. The best for the losing side was international Olexandr Mishula (192-92) with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and center Vladyslav Koreniuk (210-94, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zaporizhye maintains sixth place with 7-7 record. Kyiv Basket at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Zaporizhye are looking forward to face higher ranked Ternopil-TNEU (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kyiv Basket will play against Prometey (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
