No shocking result in a game when third ranked EWE Baskets (10-2) beat 12th ranked Bayreuth (4-8) in Oldenburg 80-73 on Saturday. EWE Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a good game for American Keith Hornsby (192-92, college: LSU) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. EWE Baskets' coach Mladen Drijencic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American Matt Tiby (203-92, college: Milwaukee) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import center Derek Pardon (203-96, college: Northwestern) added 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Bayreuth. Four Bayreuth players scored in double figures. EWE Baskets have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Crailsheim. Loser Bayreuth dropped to the thirteenth position with eight games lost. EWE Baskets will face MBC (#11) in Weissenfels in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bayreuth will play on the road against the league's second-placed Crailsheim Merlins and hope to win that game.
