Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Duesseldorf (7-5) defeated at home 8th ranked Sixers (4-6) 72-68 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Duesseldorf dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Sixers' 28. They outrebounded Sixers 42-31 including 17 on the offensive glass. Naturalized American Shawn Gulley (200-93, college: Temple JC) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and American point guard Dennis Mavin (190-91, college: FIU) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Five Duesseldorf players scored in double figures. Duesseldorf's coach Kevin Magdowski used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Croatian point guard Luka Petkovic (190-88) responded with 14 points and Lucien Schmikale (194-97) scored 7 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Duesseldorf maintains fourth place in North with 7-5 record. Loser Sixers dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. Duesseldorf will face Iserlohn (#8) at home in the next round. Sixers will play against the league's leader SparkassenStars and hope to win that game.
