Regular Season Round 16: Neptunas - Siauliai 88-94

Bottom-ranked Siauliai managed to get a third victory, breaking the two-game losing streak. This time they won against eighth-ranked Neptunas in Klaipeda 94-88. It looked good early as Neptunas took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Siauliai had a 22-19 second period charge getting the lead and Neptunas was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 88-94. Siauliai players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Belgian power forward Andy Van Vliet (213-95, college: William & Mary) who helped to win the game recording 23 points. Icelandic point guard Elvar Fridriksson (180-94, college: Barry) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Center Benas Griciunas (210-94, college: EWU) replied with 21 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Zygimantas Janavicius (193-89) added 12 points and 9 assists in the effort for Neptunas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Siauliai maintains tenth position with 3-9 record. Neptunas at the other side keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. Siauliai will play against higher ranked Prienai CBet (#6) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Neptunas will play against Rytas in Vilnius and hopes to get back on the winning track.
