Very important is a road loss of second ranked Crailsheim Merlins (10-2) against sixth ranked Hamburg Towers (8-3) on Sunday night. Visiting Crailsheim Merlins were defeated by Hamburg Towers in Hamburg 89-72. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Crailsheim Merlins. Hamburg Towers made 20-of-25 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Crailsheim Merlins turnovers. Hamburg Towers players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Estonian forward Maik-Kalev Kotsar (211-96, college: S.Carolina) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Terry Allen (203-93, college: Richmond) who added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Hamburg Towers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Canadian guard Trae Bell-Haynes (188-95, college: Vermont) with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and American center Jamuni McNeace (208-96, college: Oklahoma) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Hamburg Towers maintains sixth position with 8-3 record. Crailsheim Merlins at the other side keep the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Oldenburg. Hamburg Towers will play against higher ranked Bayern Muenchen (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Crailsheim Merlins will play against Bayreuth and hope to get back on the winning track.
