Regular Season Round 17: Arkadia - Timberwolves 89-78

Bottom-ranked Arkadia Lions managed to get a third victory on Wednesday night. This time they won against ninth-ranked Timberwolves in Traiskirchen 89-78. The game was mostly controlled by Arkadia Lions. Timberwolves managed to win third quarter 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Arkadia Lions dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Timberwolves' 36. They outrebounded Timberwolves 49-25 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Arkadia Lions looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Timberwolves' players. The best player for the winners was Croatian forward Dani Koljanin (202-96, college: UALR) who scored 27 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Croatian center Mario Spaleta (209-95) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. Bosnian forward Nemanja Nikolic (202-89) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and guard Jonas John (186-99) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Timberwolves' coach Hubert Schmidt rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Arkadia Lions (3-13) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Timberwolves. Timberwolves lost fourth consecutive game. Arkadia Lions will meet higher ranked Gunners Oberwart (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Timberwolves will play against Kapfenberg Bulls and hope to secure a win.
