Regular Season Round 17: Nevezis - Dzukija 78-82

There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Dzukija (4-8) beat 7th ranked Nevezis (5-11) in Kedainiai 82-78 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 22-14 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Dzukija looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international Simas Jasaitis (201-82) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 7 rebounds. Croatian guard Paolo Marinelli (191-95) contributed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American guard Sedrick Barefield (188-96, college: Utah, agency: Wasserman) answered with 26 points and forward Julius Kazakauskas (196-90) added 14 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Nevezis. Nevezis' coach David Gale tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Dzukija moved-up to ninth place. Nevezis lost their ninth game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. Dzukija will face league's leader Zalgiris in Kaunas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
