Regular Season Round 17: Rytas - Neptunas 95-83

Very expected game when 8th ranked Neptunas (6-11) lost to third ranked Rytas (11-5) in Vilnius 83-95 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Rytas. Neptunas was better in second period 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Neptunas' 30 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Neptunas was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international guard Dovis Bickauskis (191-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Gytis Radzevicius (197-95) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guard Martynas Mazeika (193-85) answered with 17 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Matas Jogela (201-98) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Neptunas. Five Rytas and four Neptunas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Rytas. They maintain third place with 11-5 record behind leader Zalgiris. Loser Neptunas dropped to the sixth position with 11 games lost. Rytas will face league's second-placed Lietkabelis in Panevezys in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Neptunas will play on the road against Juventus (#4) in Utena and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
