We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when sixth ranked Chernomorets (5-7) beat on the road 5th ranked Academik Plovdiv (6-8) 104-96 on Saturday. Chernomorets made 25-of-27 free shots (92.6 percent) during the game. Chernomorets outrebounded Academik Plovdiv 50-39 including 35 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Chernomorets made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Diante Baldwin (180-94, college: UNCG, agency: SLN) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 9 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import center Wendell Lewis (208-89, college: ASU) accounted for 19 points and 18 rebounds for the winning side. International Vasil Bachev (195-92, college: Cuesta JC) came up with 34 points (!!!) and 4 assists and Croatian forward Jere Vucica (206-92, college: Miami, OH) added 12 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks respectively for Academik Plovdiv in the defeat. Five Chernomorets and four Academik Plovdiv players scored in double figures. Chernomorets maintains sixth place with 5-7 record. Loser Academik Plovdiv keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. Chernomorets will meet at home Yambol (#7) in the next round. Academik Plovdiv will play against Spartak Pleven and hope to secure a win.
