Regular Season Round 19: Timberwolves - Klosterneuburg 52-87
Date: January 27, 2021
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Dukes (11-5) crushed bottom-ranked Timberwolves (3-14) in Vienna 87-52. The game without a history. Dukes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Timberwolves to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Timberwolves 52-21 including a 38-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Dukes players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Timberwolves' players. It was a great evening for the former international forward Maximilian Hopfgartner (206-92, college: John Brown, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international guard Valentin Bauer (183-94, college: Mars Hill) helped adding 10 points and 7 assists. At the losing side guard Jakob Szkutta (188-99) responded with 19 points and guard Lukas Hofer (182-92) scored 8 points and 5 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Dukes keep a position of league leader, which they share with Kapfenberg. Timberwolves lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Arkadia. Dukes will play against Raiffeisen Flyers Wels (#5) on the road in the next round. Timberwolves will play against the league's leader Kapfenberg Bulls (#1) and hope to get back on the winning track.
