Regular Season Round 21: Tofas - Bursaspor 84-77

Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Bursaspor (7-13) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Tofas (11-9) 84-77 on Sunday. Tofas dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Bursaspor's 22 and made 28-of-30 free shots (93.3 percent) during the game. Tofas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Bursaspor was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. British-American guard Tarik Phillip (191-93, college: WVU) stepped up and scored 23 points, 7 assists and 5 steals (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and Trinidad and Tobago-American Devaughn Akoon-Purcell (196-93, college: Illinois St.) chipped in 27 points and 6 rebounds (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!). Four Tofas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Canadian Marial Shayok (196-95, college: Iowa St.) with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Xavier Munford (193-92, college: URI) scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tofas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Afyon. Newly promoted Bursaspor dropped to the tenth position with 13 games lost. Tofas will face higher ranked Fenerbahce (#3) in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bursaspor will play at home against Dacka (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
