Regular Season Round 20: Zalgiris - P.Zvaigzdes 95-76

LKL top team - Zalgiris (15-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifth ranked P.Zvaigzdes (8-11) in Kaunas 95-76. P.Zvaigzdes was ahead by 6 points at the halftime before a 53-28 second half run of Zalgiris. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to P.Zvaigzdes' 30 and made 21-of-27 charity shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Zalgiris players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. P.Zvaigzdes was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a quality performance of the former international guard Marius Grigonis (198-94) who helped to win the game recording 26 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) who added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists during the contest. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Serbian-Bulgarian guard Branko Mirkovic (190-82, agency: 011 Sports) responded with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Canadian guard Jahenns-Ley Manigat (186-91, college: Creighton) scored 16 points and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 15-2 record. P.Zvaigzdes at the other side keeps the fifth place with 11 games lost. Zalgiris will play against Neptunas (#6) in Klaipeda in the next round where they are favorite. P.Zvaigzdes will play at home against Lietkabelis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
