Seventh-ranked Hamburg Towers (9-6) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked EWE Baskets (14-3) in Oldenburg on Wednesday. EWE Baskets managed to secure only one-point victory 89-88. However their fans expected easier game. EWE Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) who scored 18 points. Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Kameron Taylor (198-94, college: Seton Hill) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and Estonian forward Maik-Kalev Kotsar (211-96, college: S.Carolina) added 21 points and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. EWE Baskets moved-up to third place, which they share with Crailsheim. Newly promoted Hamburg Towers keep the seventh position with six games lost. EWE Baskets is looking forward to face bottom-ranked 46ers (#18) in Giessen in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Hamburg Towers will play at home against Telekom Baskets (#16) and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
