There was no surprise when 14th ranked Istanbul Univ. (3-13) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked Mersin Univ. (7-9) 80-66. Mersin Univ. players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Istanbul Univ.'s players. American forward Caliya Robinson (190-97, college: Georgia) nailed a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winning side and power forward Betul Gulec (183-97) accounted for 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Mersin Univ. players scored in double figures. American center Brandi Harvey-Carr (193-94, college: Pittsburgh) came up with 21 points and 7 rebounds and forward Meltem Topaloglu (178-99) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Istanbul Univ. in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mersin Univ. maintains eighth place with 7-9 record. Istanbul Univ. lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. Mersin Univ.'s next round opponent will be higher ranked Antalya 07 (#4) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Istanbul Univ.'s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Istanbul Emlak Konut.
