There was a minor upset when 15th ranked Bayreuth (6-14) lost to seventeenth ranked 46ers (4-16) in Giessen 92-97. 46ers outrebounded Bayreuth 38-25 including a 14-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American center John Bryant (211-87, college: Santa Clara) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Brandon Bowman (206-84, college: Georgetown, agency: David Lee Services) chipped in 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Four 46ers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Bastian Doreth (183-89) with 33 points (!!!) and 8 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) (on 13-of-14 shooting from the field) and the former international center Andreas Seiferth (209-89) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). 46ers maintains seventeenth place with 4-16 record. Bayreuth lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifteenth position with 14 games lost. 46ers will play against higher ranked Telekom Baskets (#10) in Bonn in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bayreuth will play at home against Crailsheim Merlins (#3) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
