Regular Season Round 21: Zalgiris - Neptunas 85-72

LKL top team - Zalgiris (16-2) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat fifth ranked Neptunas (8-13) in Kaunas 85-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Neptunas. It looked good early as Neptunas took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris had a 27-11 second period charge getting the lead and Neptunas was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-85. Zalgiris made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Neptunas was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international guard Lukas Lekavicius (180-94) stepped up and scored 9 points and 7 assists for the winners and the former international forward Paulius Jankunas (205-84) chipped in 4 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American point guard Darrin Dorsey (188-87, college: DWU) with 14 points and 4 assists and power forward Norbertas Giga (208-95, college: JSU) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Four Neptunas players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 16-2 record. Neptunas at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 13 games lost. Zalgiris will play against Juventus (#3) in Utena in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Neptunas will play on the road against Prienai CBet and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
