Regular Season Round 22: P.Zvaigzdes - Siauliai 70-88
Date: March 6, 2021
Bottom-ranked Siauliai managed to get a sixth victory, breaking the five-game losing streak. This time they won against fifth-ranked P.Zvaigzdes in Pasvalys 88-70. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 18-point difference suggests that Siauliai is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Siauliai. P.Zvaigzdes was better in second period 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Siauliai players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Belgian power forward Andy Van Vliet (213-95, college: William & Mary) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. The former international guard Mindaugas Lukauskis (198-79) contributed with 12 points and 6 assists for the winners. Siauliai's coach Antanas Sireika allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Tomas Lekunas (199-93, agency: Players Group) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and American-Argentinian center Daniel Amigo (208-95, college: Denver) added 8 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for P.Zvaigzdes. Siauliai maintains tenth position with 6-16 record. P.Zvaigzdes at the other side keeps the fifth place with 13 games lost. Siauliai will play against league's leader Zalgiris in Kaunas in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. P.Zvaigzdes will play at home against Juventus (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
