Regular Season Round 21: Benfica - CAB Madeira 75-47

Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked CAB Madeira (7-6) was outscored by fourth ranked Benfica (14-4) in Lisbona 75-47 on Sunday. Benfica dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to CAB Madeira's 32. They outrebounded CAB Madeira 48-36 including 36 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for international guard Joana Soeiro (170-95, college: Marian, IN) who led her team to a victory with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Japonica James (180-98, college: Troy) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Benfica players scored in double figures. American forward Nike McClure (190-96, college: N.Mexico) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists and Montenegrin guard Jelena Nikpaljevic (175-94) added 9 points in the effort for CAB Madeira. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Benfica moved-up to second place, which they share with Vitoria SC. Loser CAB Madeira keeps the eighth position with six games lost. Benfica will face Galitos (#9) in Aveiro in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CAB Madeira will play at home against Queluz and hope to win that game.
