No shocking result in a game in Sumy where second ranked Polytechnic (24-2) smashed 5th ranked SumDU (12-13) 93-62 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 93-62. Polytechnic dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to SumDU's 30 and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded SumDU 62-32 including a 22-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was naturalized Moldovan center Stanislav Zavadskiy (212-87, agency: BIG) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Cam Gregory (203-95, college: Loyola, MD, agency: BIG) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Four Polytechnic players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Vadim Bykov (196-96) who recorded 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Igor Starodub (185-97) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Polytechnic maintains second place with 24-2 record having just five point less than leader Krivbas. Loser SumDU keeps the fifth position with 13 games lost. Polytechnic will have a break next round. SumDU will play again at home against the league's second-placed Polytechnic (#2) and hope to win that game.
