Date: March 20, 2021
The most important game in the last round took place in Utena between third ranked Juventus (17-8) and fourth ranked Lietkabelis (17-8) on Saturday night. Juventus was defeated by Lietkabelis at home 88-78. The game was mostly controlled by Lietkabelis. Juventus managed to win second period 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Lietkabelis won last quarter 19-10. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican-American guard Kyle Vinales (185-92, college: CCSU, agency: Network Sports International) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 7 assists and forward Gabas Maldunas (205-93, college: Dartmouth) who added 14 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Lietkabelis' coach Nenad Canak used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was center Mindaugas Kupsas (216-91, agency: BIG) with 27 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!) and the former international guard Martynas Gecevicius (193-88) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lietkabelis moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Juventus. Lietkabelis is looking forward to face Neptunas (#8) in Klaipeda in the next round where they are favorite. Juventus will play on the road against the league's second-placed Rytas (#2) in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
