Regular Season Round 24: Siauliai - Neptunas 99-68

Bottom-ranked Siauliai managed to get a seventh victory, breaking the two-game losing streak. This time they outleveled eighth-ranked Neptunas 99-68. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 31-point difference suggests that Siauliai is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Siauliai. Neptunas was better in fourth quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Siauliai dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Neptunas' 24. They outrebounded Neptunas 38-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Siauliai players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Neptunas was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by power forward Arminas Urbutis (206-86, college: Hofstra, agency: Octagon Europe) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and Icelandic point guard Elvar Fridriksson (180-94, college: Barry) supported him with 18 points and 7 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Siauliai players scored in double figures. Even 16 points by swingman Matas Jogela (201-98) did not help to save the game for Neptunas. Power forward Norbertas Giga (208-95, college: JSU) added 9 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Siauliai (7-18) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Nevezis. Neptunas lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 17 games lost. Siauliai will play against Nevezis (#9) in Kedainiai in the next round. Neptunas will play on the road against Lietkabelis in Panevezys and hopes to get back on the winning track.
