No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked EWE Baskets (19-6) won against on the road 11th ranked Chemnitz (8-15) 98-92 on Friday. Strangely Chemnitz outrebounded EWE Baskets 43-29 including 33 on the defensive glass. Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) stepped up and scored 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American point guard Phil Pressey (180-91, college: Missouri) chipped in 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side American guard George King (198-94, college: Colorado, agency: Slash Sports) responded with 23 points and 7 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and the other American import guard Marcus Thornton (193-93, college: William & Mary) scored 20 points and 6 assists. Five EWE Baskets and four Chemnitz players scored in double figures. Chemnitz's coach Rodrigo Pastore rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. EWE Baskets maintains fourth place with 19-6 record. Newly promoted Chemnitz dropped to the fourteenth position with 15 games lost. EWE Baskets will face s Oliver Baskets (#15) in Wuerzburg in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Chemnitz will play on the road against MBC in Weissenfels and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
