There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Braunschweig (9-15) beat at home higher ranked Skyliners (10-15) 80-68 on Sunday. They outrebounded Skyliners 39-22 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Skyliners were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Naturalized American center Gavin Schilling (206-95, college: Michigan St.) stepped up and scored 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Lithuanian point guard Arnas Velicka (192-99) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Four Braunschweig players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Matt Mobley (193-94, college: St.Bonaventure) responded with 24 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Rasheed Moore (198-95, college: ESU) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Braunschweig moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Goettingen and Bonn. Loser Skyliners keep the ninth position with 15 games lost. Braunschweig will face higher ranked ratiopharm Ulm (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
