Regular Season Round 24: Balkan 2 - Sportist Svoge 67-89

Very predictable result when third ranked Sportist Svoge (19-2) rolled over 12th ranked Balkan 2 (6-16) in Botevgrad 89-67 on Sunday. Sportist Svoge dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Balkan 2's 36. They outrebounded Balkan 2 60-35 including a 25-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Sportist Svoge looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for guard Boris Matrakov (195-93) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. The former international center Ivan Tilev (204-79) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Forward Iliyan Pishtikov (191-4) replied with 25 points and Aleksandar Gavalyugov added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Balkan 2. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Sportist Svoge maintains third position with 19-2 record having just 6 victories less than leader Showtime. Balkan 2 lost sixth consecutive game. Balkan 2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the twelfth place with 16 games lost. Sportist Svoge will face Enigma Fireworks (#5) in Sofia in the next round. Balkan 2 will play on the road against Fab Five BUBA (#6) in Sofia and hope to win that game.
