Regular Season Round 29: Karlsruhe PS - Trier 94-105

There was no surprise in Karlsruhe where 11th ranked Lions (9-14) were defeated by ninth ranked Gladiators (11-16) 105-94 on Monday. Gladiators outrebounded Lions 36-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Gladiators looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Lions were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was point guard Jonas Grof (201-96) who scored 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Jonathan Almstedt (208-99) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). American Tyseem Lyles (185-92, college: Mercy) produced 22 points and the other American import point guard KC Ross-Miller (183-91, college: Auburn) added 21 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gladiators maintains ninth place with 11-16 record. Lions lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Gladiators will face Ehingen/Urspringschule (#14) in Allmendingen in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lions will play on the road against Kirchheim Knights and hope to win that game.
