Regular Season Round 26: Lietkabelis - Zalgiris 88-94

An interesting game for Zalgiris (21-2) which played road game in Panevezys against 3rd ranked Lietkabelis (18-9). Second ranked Zalgiris managed to get a 6-point victory 94-88. It looked good early as Lietkabelis took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris had a 32-16 second period charge getting the lead and Lietkabelis was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 88-94. It was a great shooting night for Zalgiris especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. The former international forward Paulius Jankunas (205-84) scored 21 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Martinas Geben (208-94, college: Notre Dame) chipped in 12 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Puerto Rican-American guard Kyle Vinales (185-92, college: CCSU, agency: Network Sports International) responded with 28 points and 7 assists and Serbian center Djordje Gagic (210-90, agency: Interperformances) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Five Zalgiris and four Lietkabelis players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Lietkabelis at the other side keeps the third place with nine games lost. Zalgiris will play against league's second-placed Rytas in Vilnius in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lietkabelis will play at home against Prienai CBet and hopes to get back on the winning track.
