Twelfth-ranked Botas (8-16) was very close to win a game against ninth ranked Mersin Univ. (12-13) on Saturday. Mersin Univ. managed to secure only one-point victory 72-71. However their fans expected easier game. Mersin Univ. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Caliya Robinson (190-97, college: Georgia) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. The former international Fahriye Bayraktar (185-95) accounted for 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Four Mersin Univ. players scored in double figures. American center Tearra Banks (188-95, college: Austin Peay) came up with 20 points and 9 rebounds and Hatice Gulcelik (178-2) added 15 points respectively for Botas in the defeat. Botas' coach Cemal Gozeneli rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Mersin Univ.. They moved-up to eighth place. Botas lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh position with 16 games lost. They share it with Duzce Bld. Mersin Univ. will meet higher ranked Edremit (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Botas will play against the league's second-placed Antalya 07 (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
