Regular Season Round 27: Zalgiris - Rytas 85-86
Date: April 11, 2021
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Zalgiris (21-3) in Kaunas on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by Rytas (22-6) 86-85. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Zalgiris. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zalgiris won fourth quarter 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rytas made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Croatian power forward Ivan Buva (208-91) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). American guard Andrew Goudelock (192-88, college: Charleston, agency: Octagon Europe) helped adding 14 points. The best for the losing side was American guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) with 21 points and the former international guard Marius Grigonis (198-94) scored 14 points and 6 assists. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Zalgiris' coach Martin Schiller tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Rytas keeps a position of league leader. Defending champion Zalgiris dropped to the second place with three games lost. Rytas are looking forward to face Prienai CBet (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Zalgiris will play against Dzukija (#7) in Alytus and is hoping to win this game.
