Second Stage Round 2: Bayer Giants - Jena 99-84

The biggest surprise of round 2 in ProA took place in Leverkusen where host Bayer Giants beat Science City Jena 99-84 on Tuesday evening. Bayer Giants made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Bayer Giants outrebounded Science City Jena 38-27 including a 34-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Science City Jena helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American JJ Mann (198-91, college: Belmont) who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Center Dennis Heinzmann (216-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. American point guard Kasey Hill (185-93, college: Florida) produced 19 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import center Norense Odiase (203-95, college: Texas Tech) added 21 points respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Science City Jena will play next round against strong Artland Dragons trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Bayer Giants will try to continue on its current victory against Rostock at home.
