Regular Season Round 31: Siauliai - Zalgiris 86-105

Leader Zalgiris delivered the twenty seventh victory on Sunday night. This time they crushed 7th ranked Siauliai (11-20) 105-86. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 105-86. Zalgiris forced 20 Siauliai turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 53.6 percentage. Zalgiris looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) who led his team to a victory scoring 8 points, 9 assists and 6 steals. His fellow American import forward Nigel Hayes (203-94, college: Wisconsin, agency: Network Sports International) helped adding 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). At the losing side power forward Arminas Urbutis (206-86, college: Hofstra, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Belgian power forward Andy Van Vliet (213-95, college: William & Mary) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Zalgiris (27-3) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place. Loser Siauliai keeps the seventh position with 20 games lost. Zalgiris will meet at home P.Zvaigzdes (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Siauliai will play against Nevezis and hope to secure a win.
