Regular Season Round 31: Bayreuth - Hamburg 90-83

There was an upset when higher ranked Hamburg Towers (20-11) were defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Bayreuth (12-19) 90-83 on Thursday. Bayreuth made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for American center Derek Pardon (203-96, college: Northwestern) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Frank Bartley IV (190-94, college: La-Lafayette, agency: BeoBasket) helped adding 14 points and 4 assists. Bartley IV attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. At the losing side Estonian forward Maik-Kalev Kotsar (211-96, college: S.Carolina) responded with 23 points and American point guard TJ Shorts (175-97, college: UC Davis) scored 14 points and 6 assists. Five Hamburg Towers players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Bayreuth moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Bonn. Newly promoted Hamburg Towers keep the sixth position with 11 games lost. Bayreuth will face MBC (#16) in Weissenfels in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
