The biggest surprise took place in Jena where host Science City Jena (4-1) beat league's leader Bayer Giants (4-1) 96-92 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Bayer Giants. It was a key game for the top position in Group 1. 26 personal fouls committed by Bayer Giants helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Julius Wolf (203-93) who scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. American point guard Kasey Hill (185-93, college: Florida) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. American JJ Mann (198-91, college: Belmont) produced 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Sheldon Eberhardt (196-95, college: Elon) added 25 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Science City Jena have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of Group 1 leader, which they share with defeated Bayer Giants. Bayer Giants will play next round against strong Artland Dragons trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Science City Jena will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Rostock on the road.
