Starwings upset Neuchatel in the opening game. Starwings made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Neuchatel helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Deondre Burns (190-97, college: ORU) who helped to win the game recording 29 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Matt Milon (196-96, college: UCF) contributed with 27 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Xavier Ford (203-93, college: Buffalo) answered with 23 points and 7 rebounds and guard Vernon Taylor (191-87, college: Troy) added 21 points and 6 assists in the effort for Neuchatel. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Neuchatel's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
