GC Zurich storm to maiden NLB title with Game 5 demolition of Bernex-May 31, 2026
GC Zurich captured the Swiss NLB championship, controlling all four quarters in a 77-61 Game 5 victory over Bernex Basket at Im Birch on Saturday to claim the title before 1,200 fans.
Coach Nemanja Kovacevic's side never trailed, opening with a 20-11 first quarter and steadily extending their advantage 39-25 at halftime, 62-45 through three with a lead that peaked at 23 points. Bernex shot just 16 percent from three-point range (4-of-25) and committed 18 turnovers, which GC Zurich converted into 24 points.
Dylan Schommer (204-F/C-1997, agency: Highlight Athletes) led the champions with 18 points on a ruthless 7-of-9 from the field and 12 rebounds for a game-high 21 efficiency. Mila Wachter (196-G/F-2005) added 16 (4-of-11 from three, 4-of-4 FT), while Nate West (180-PG-1998, college: LeTourneau) orchestrated with 13 points, six assists, and four steals for 19 efficiency. Captain Nicolas Hulliger (194-SF-2001) chipped in 12 and Malcolm Amsler had nine off the bench.
For Bernex, Thibald Naf (190-G-2000) top-scored with 22 points (4-of-8 from three), while Jahlen Joly (192-F-2006) added 12 and nine rebounds and Patrick Ngueukam (200-F-1996) Bakop had nine. But the Geneva side's perimeter struggles and turnover woes left them chasing throughout.
