Regular Season Round 2: Rapid - Arad 46-86

No shocking result in a game when Arad crushed on the road Rapid Bucuresti 86-46 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Arad. Rapid Bucuresti managed to win second period 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Rapid Bucuresti to just 3 points in fourth quarter and to 13 points in second half. Arad dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Rapid Bucuresti's 22 and made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game, while Rapid Bucuresti only scored three points from the stripe. They outrebounded Rapid Bucuresti 46-28 including a 37-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Andreona Keys (178-95, college: Purdue) notched 28 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and Serbian guard Brankica Hadzovic (175-81) supported her with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Keys is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five Arad players scored in double figures. Even 24 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals by the former international guard Florina Stanici-Diaconu (170-82) did not help to save the game for Rapid Bucuresti. Guard Gabriela Vlad (178-88) added 8 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Arad will meet at home Targu Mures in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Rapid Bucuresti will play against Targu Secuiesc and hope to win that game.
