We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Itzehoe where 8th ranked Eagles (2-2) were defeated by ninth ranked Lions (3-2) 92-87 on Saturday. Strangely Eagles outrebounded Lions 38-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. American guard Stanley Whittaker (183-94, college: Keiser) scored 22 points and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Ferdinand Zylka (191-98) chipped in 22 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American Christopher Hooper (198-91, college: SFC) with 22 points and 9 rebounds and center Yasin Kolo (208-92, college: Bellarmine) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Four Lions and five Eagles players scored in double figures. Eagles' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Lions moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Rostock and Schwenningen. Newly promoted Eagles dropped to the twelfth position with two games lost. Lions will meet at home higher ranked Walter Tigers (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Eagles will play against Leverkusen (#5) and hope to secure a win.
