There was a minor upset when higher ranked Afyon Bld (2-3) lost to fifteenth ranked Merkezefendi (2-3) in Denizl 79-87 on Sunday. Merkezefendi looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Latvian Rihards Lomazs (190-96) nailed 13 points and 5 assists for the winning side and American point guard Adam Smith (185-92, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Network Sports International) accounted for 15 points and 4 assists. Lithuanian Donatas Tarolis (207-94) came up with 19 points and 7 rebounds and American center Eric Buckner (208-90, college: Georgia St.) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Afyon Bld in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Merkezefendi moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 6 other teams including defeated Afyon Bld. Merkezefendi will meet Besiktas (#11) in the next round. Afyon Bld will play against Dacka and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
