Regular Season Round 3: Timberwolves - St.Poelten 78-80

Important game to mention about took place in Vienna. UBC St. Poelten (1-2) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging Timberwolves (0-3) 80-78 on Saturday evening. It looked good early as Timberwolves took a 17-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then UBC St. Poelten took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 2 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Timberwolves' 22. UBC St. Poelten forced 20 Timberwolves turnovers. Strangely Timberwolves outrebounded UBC St. Poelten 42-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for Finnish guard Aapeli Alanen (201-96, agency: Blacktop Management) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Roman Jagsch (180-92) helped adding 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Jakob Szkutta (188-99) with 25 points and 8 rebounds and Bosnian forward Nemanja Nikolic (202-89) scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Five UBC St. Poelten and four Timberwolves players scored in double figures. Timberwolves' coach Hubert Schmidt tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. UBC St. Poelten will play against Gmunden Swans (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Timberwolves will play against Dukes (#7) in Klosterneuburg and hope to get finally their first victory.
