Regular Season Round 7: Interkhim - Budivelnyk 72-99
Date: October 30, 2021
There was no surprise in Odessa where 5th ranked Interkhim (4-6) was crushed by third ranked Budivelnyk (8-2) 99-72 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 99-72. Budivelnyk dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Interkhim's 28 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Budivelnyk forced 24 Interkhim turnovers. It was a great evening for American point guard Arella Guirantes (180-97, college: Rutgers) who led her team to a victory scoring 30 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals. Her fellow American import guard Kristen Spolyar (178-97, college: Butler) helped adding 24 points and 10 rebounds. Four Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international forward Olesia Malashenko (191-91, agency: LBM Management) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Olena Samburska (175-89) scored 17 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Budivelnyk. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Kyiv Basket. Loser Interkhim keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Budivelnyk will meet at home Chaika (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Interkhim will play against Rivne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
