Regular Season Round 6: Esgueira - CDEFF 63-52
Date: October 31, 2021
Rather predictable result when sixth ranked Esgueira (4-2) won against 8th ranked CDEFF (2-4) in Aveiro 63-52 on Sunday. Esgueira forced 23 CDEFF turnovers and had a 24-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American swingman Vashti Nwagbaraocha (181-97, college: William Penn) notched a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import forward Trudy Walker (180, college: Jacksonville) supported her with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Nwagbaraocha is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 29 points and 6 rebounds by American guard Kate Andersen (175-97, college: Portland) did not help to save the game for CDEFF. Brazilian center Bianca Silva (189-96, agency: Interperformances) added 4 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Esgueira moved-up to fourth place, which they share with CAB Madeira and Sportiva. CDEFF at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Galitos. Esgueira will meet Olivais (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. CDEFF will play against Sportiva in Ponta Delgada and hope to secure a win.
