There was an upset in Essen where second-ranked Deutzer (6-2) was rolled over by eleventh ranked ETB Miners (3-5) 86-61 on Friday. ETB Miners looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Austrian swingman Fabian Richter (191-95) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Irish guard Patrick Carney (185-85, college: Chapman) who added 19 points and 5 assists during the contest. Four ETB Miners players scored in double figures. Center Christian Froehlingsdorf (210-93) responded with 12 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Paul Hoerschler (194-97) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. ETB Miners moved-up to tenth place in West, which they share with Wulfen. Loser Deutzer keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with Ibbenbueren. ETB Miners will meet at home Grevenbroich (#14) in the next round. Deutzer will play against Leverkusen 2 (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
