There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Bayreuth (2-4) edged on the road higher ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (4-3) 89-87 on Saturday. Bayreuth looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Lithuanian center Martynas Sajus (208-96) fired 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American point guard Cameron Wells (186-88, college: Citadel) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 assists. American power forward Brekkott Chapman (206-96, college: Weber St.) produced 17 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import forward Kelvin Martin (196-89, college: Charleston So.) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Bayreuth moved-up to fourteenth place. Newly promoted MLP Academics Heidelberg keeps the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with 5 other teams. Bayreuth will meet at home higher ranked MBC (#12) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play against Chemnitz (#9) and hope to secure a win.
