Esgueira (4-1) recorded its first loss at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by second ranked Sangalhos (4-1) 74-52. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Esgueira. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The best player for the winners was American forward Steven Julian (198-96, college: Cornell) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Point guard Joao Martinho (-97) chipped in 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. American guard Sean Lloyd (196-96, college: SIU) produced 18 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import forward Chad Andrews-Fulton (201-97, college: Coppin St.) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Sangalhos maintains second place with 4-1 record having just one victory less than leader Galitos, which they share with defeated Esgueira. Sangalhos is looking forward to face Maia Basket (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Esgueira will play against Electrico FC (#5) in Ponte de Sor and is hoping to win this game.
