A very close game took place in Bochum between SparkassenStars and Rasta Vechta. Eleventh ranked SparkassenStars (4-4) got a very close home victory over 16th ranked Rasta Vechta (2-7). SparkassenStars managed to escape with a 3-point win 70-67 on Sunday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rasta Vechta. SparkassenStars dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Rasta Vechta's 22. SparkassenStars forced 24 Rasta Vechta turnovers. American guard Tony Hicks (186-94, college: Louisville, agency: GoEmpire Group) stepped up and scored 21 points for the winners and point guard Niklas Geske (188-94) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Joshua Young (184-88, college: Drake) with 22 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard AJ Turner (201-96, college: Northwestern) scored 15 points. Rasta Vechta's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. SparkassenStars moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Nuernberg. Loser Rasta Vechta keeps the sixteenth position with seven games lost. SparkassenStars will meet higher ranked Uni Baskets (#9) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rasta Vechta will play against Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (#6) and hope to secure a win.
