Regular Season Round 5: Karsiyaka - Botas GA 73-76

Important game to mention about took place in Izmir. Leader Botas GA (5-0) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 7th ranked Karsiyaka (2-3) 76-73 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Karsiyaka. They outrebounded Karsiyaka 43-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. Ukrainian center Olena Stashchuk (192-85) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds for the winners and Saliha Mandiraci (169-2) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Botas GA's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Doga Comba (185-94) responded with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and American point guard Kyra Lambert (175-96, college: Texas) scored 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Botas GA. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Emlak. Karsiyaka at the other side keeps the seventh place with three games lost. They share the position with 6 other teams. Botas GA will play against Fenerbahce G. (#12) in Istanbul in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Karsiyaka will play on the road against Yalova Vip (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
